A few days ago my friend Drew posted some thoughts on “the greatest gift”- that is, Jesus Christ come down from heaven. I appreciated what he had to say so much that I thought I’d share them with you:
At the moment I’m particularly awestruck at the majesty of
this event. Here’s why: So I was thinking about Heaven, and how awesome it will
be to glorify God for an eternity and still have more time to worship his name.
Then I started thinking about eternity and how heaven is full of the greatness
of eternity past to eternity future. And I was like, wow, there are some
AWESOME things that fall into that category. And then I started thinking how to
sum it all up, heaven that is…Jesus is the summation. Which I think makes his
coming to earth so glorious and the definition of the greatest gift. Here’s
heaven, in all its vastness and greatness and eternity, filled with treasures
that are incomprehensible by our minds and that will take an eternity to fully
appreciate, and among all of these things, God chose to send his Son, Jesus. So
Jesus is the summation (and the purpose and completion of) heaven, that we
might be able to glorify our Father for an eternity. God sent down all of
heaven’s wonder, majesty, power, pleasure, glory, treasure, etc. etc. etc. to
earth as a gift for us! How glorious is that!? There’s nothing in Heaven that
can add to or supplement the coming of Jesus to earth; it is in effect the most
absolute, fullest gift that could come from God our Father. Heaven’s complete
worth and God’s infinite glory came down to earth and died and rose again that
we may be redeemed…awesome…
