Dear Family and Friends,
When I graduated
from college 8 months ago, I had no plan for where my life (and career) was
headed; I only knew that I wanted to be involved in full-time ministry. Since then, I’ve worked at Hershey’s
Chocolate World, a car dealership, and an inter-church singles ministry. I’ve also gotten involved with the youth
group at my church, building relationships with the younger girls and even
starting a small-group Bible study.
Perhaps the most exciting adventure of the last 8 months was a mission
trip to the Dominican
Republic over Thanksgiving; there God gave
me a glimpse of how He’s working in other parts of the world. Through all of that, I continued to wonder
where God was leading me. Now I believe
He has revealed the next step.
In September, I
will head to Georgia
to begin training for Adventures In Missions’ (AIM) First Year Missionary (FYM)
program. Designed to create radical
disciples of Jesus Christ, this program provides 18- to 24-year-olds with an
opportunity to experience cross-cultural ministry first-hand. I will spend a school year (September to May)
in England
being discipled and doing an internship in youth ministry. While there, I will be living with the other
female FYM participants, which means plenty of life-on-life discipleship. AIM will also provide one-on-one discipleship. As much as this trip will provide practical
ministry experience, AIM is more concerned with my spiritual growth and
providing opportunities for me to strengthen my relationship with God. Over the last few months, God has
strengthened my desire to share His love with the youth around me. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to do
this in England,
a “post-Church” society where churches are almost empty except for a few older
people struggling to connect with the younger generations. I’m praying that God will allow me to impact
some of England’s
youth in an eternal way.
In order for that
to happen, there are some practical needs that I’m trusting God will meet; I
hope you will prayerfully consider allowing Him to meet those needs through
you. Every ministry needs prayer
support, and I am asking for five people to commit to praying for me each day
until I return. This trip also has financial
aspects such as travel and living expenses.
I need to raise $11,500; that amount includes $9,500 which will go
directly to AIM, and another $2,000 to cover travel expenses, medical
insurance, and other expenses. I must
have the money to pay for my flight and 60% of the $9,500 in my account and the
rest in pledges before I leave. If 6
people gave $100/month for 10 months, 6 people gave $50/month for 10 months,
and 10 people gave $25/month for 10 months, I would have enough to cover my
expenses.
I have enclosed a
response card and pre-addressed envelope, which invites you to share in this
ministry. Please pay close attention to
the line asking for pledges; you can decide your start date and end date. If you make a pledge, please fill those dates
out. Please make checks payable to
Adventures In Missions. The enclosed
card MUST be included as that will provide AIM with all necessary
information. In turn, they will send you
a receipt. They require that I have 60%
of my funds in before I leave, and the rest of the funds can be in
pledges. They will keep track of my
pledges by what is indicated on the card.
Please not that a one-time gift is also an option. You can also pledge support online at my
web-log (blog) http://katherinemumper.myadventures.org.
I’m so excited to
see how God is going to work in me and through me over the course of the next
year. I pray that as my relationship
with Him deepens, He will continue to reveal to me the plan He has for my life. I hope to be a blessing to those I meet while
in England,
but also to you. I want to go as your
representative in the ministry of building His kingdom. Thank you for prayerfully considering being a
part of His (and my) ministry.
In Him,
Katie Mumper
