Today, as Jarred and I were sitting in the living room working on various things, a song started playing on Jarred's computer. When I asked who sang it, he said, "Daniel Bedingfield." I realized that I had purchased a song by this same artist on iTunes, so I mentioned that to Jarred. He asked me to play it because the song, "Honest Questions", is one of his favorites. As I listened to the lyrics, I was struck again by the words that had attracted me to the song in the first place:

Verse 1
Can
you see

The honest questions in my heart this hour

I am opening like a flower

To the rain

And do you know the silent sorrows of a

Never ending journey through the pain

Do you see a brighter day for me

Another day

A day

Do you wonder whats in store for me

The cure for me

The way

Oh look down and see the tears I've cried

The lives I've lived

The deaths I've died

Would you die them too

And all for me

Chorus

(You say)

I will pour the water down upon a thirsty barren land

And streams will flow

From the dust of your bruised and broken soul

And you will grow like the grass

Upon the fertile plains of Asia by the streams

Of living water you will grow

Oh.. you will grow

Verse 2

Do you know

The story from the start

And do you know me

Like you've always told me

Do you see the whispers in my heart against your kindness

My eternal blindness

Do you see...

Do you see a brighter day for me

Another day

A day

Do you wonder whats in store for me

The cure for me

The way

Oh look down and see the tears I've cried

The lives I've lived

The deaths I've died

Would you die them too

And all for me

Chorus

(You say)

I will pour the water down upon a thirsty barron land

And streams will flow

From the dust of your bruised and broken soul

And you will grow like the grass

Upon the fertile plains of Asia by the streams

Of living water you will grow

Oh.. I will pour the water down upon the thirsty barren land

And streams will flow

From the dust of your bruised and broken soul

And you will grow like the grass

Upon the fertile plains of Asia by the streams

Of living water you will grow

Oh.. you will grow

As I've been reading The Sacred Romance and trying to be more open and honest with God, the honest questions of this song have become some of my questions.

The words in pink are the questions I have been asking most: Does God really see everything that I've been through? Is He aware of the wounds and the pain? Is He aware of what things in my life have led me to a point of not really trusting Him? Does He really know me as intimately as the Bible says He does?

The words in blue are the request I've made of God in recent days: be aware of my sorrow, my pain, my tears; look at what this world is doing to Your child. I've been making it a point to share my emotions with God, to let Him know how I'm really feeling about stuff. I'm realizing that He cares how I feel.

Finally, the words in green are a reminder of what God's response is to me: "I will provide the water needed to fill the dusty riverbeds of your heart. That water will heal the wounds, the bruises, of your heart and soul. That water will quench your thirst-- it will satisfy every desire of your heart."
